P.S. I HART THIS: Spring Travel

There’s so much to see in the world. I want to burst out my front door and go everywhere I can and drink in as much newness as I can. But there’s also the comfort in familiarity; returning to a place to experience a deeper dimension, sink in, and slow down. Here are eight places I’d love to return to one day.

1. Lewa Wildlife Conservancy | Kenya

When I was 21, I was lucky enough for my parents to take our family on a month-long safari across Kenya. My favorite camp was Lewa Downs, a wildlife reserve established in 1995. The warmth of the people, the purity of the animals, and the beauty of the landscape still enchant my memories after all of these years. I’m saving up for a safari for my 40th birthday.

2. Governor’s Harbor | Eleuthera

Last year my husband and I spent nearly a month with our kids on Eleuthera, a 100-mile long stringbean of an island (Harbor Island is at the tippy top). About halfway down the middle is low-key Governor’s Harbor, a fraction of the speed of Briland. Our homebase for day trips was an historic bungalow at Squire Estates, a rustic hilltop compound of a few old homes nestled amongst spacious lawns, fruit trees and happy chickens. This hidden gem would be great for groups.

3. Hong Kong

If you ever find yourself tempted to go to Hong Kong, do it. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world. Dare I say, I love it more than Shanghai, where I spent six wildly fun years of my 20s. The food, the culture, the landscape (incredible hiking!), the juxtaposition of east and west; history meets modernity. It’s all so incredibly exciting, fun, stylish and international. Stay at The Upper House.

4. GoldenEye | Jamaica

Last year I experienced the euphoria of swimming alongside sea turtles in the crystal clear lagoon of GoldenEye, the legendary Jamaican property built by James Bond creator Ian Fleming and owned briefly by Bob Marley. In 1977, Chris Blackwell, the owner of Island Records, bought it and ever since it’s been a low-key oasis for musicians and the like. With treehouse bungalows and rocky swimming coves, it’s pure laidback luxury. Heaven.

5. Round Hill | Jamaica

When one of my closest friends got married here, it felt like stepping into a glamorous Slim Aarons photograph. This is an ideal spot to splurge on a villa with your best friends and kids.

6. Cotignac | France

In 2019 I was invited to share a really special villa in the South of France with some friends. The experience was magical, and changed the way I want to explore Europe – by settling into one place. There isn’t much else I can add to what everyone already knows about the magic of Provence…

7. Bareboating in the British Virgin Islands

Fortunately, I am married to a sailor. Our honeymoon was just the two of us on a 40-foot sailboat island-hopping in the BVIs. We turned off our phones to spend a week swimming, snorkeling, reading, stargazing, exploring the gems on each island… and enjoying lots of music and beer. Magic.

8. Mexico City

CDMX has my heart. I can’t wait to return with my kids, to show them the epic anthropologie museums and pyramids. The food is beyond. Cool, international crowd. Stylish and chill. I feel like I could go back twice a year and still discover something new.
